RAAF Glenbrook to close in 2015

written by WOFA | November 25, 2009

RAAF base Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains near Penrith, home of the RAAF’s Headquarters Air Command, will close in 2015.

Originally slated for closure in 2010, the base, located in the former 1920s era Lapstone Hotel, will remain operational until upgrade works to RAAF base Amberley are completed and the new HQ Joint Operations Command at Bungendore near Canberra is fully operational. “I’ve …been advised by Defence that … requirements to construct facilities at RAAF Amberley have delayed the planned closure,” Senator Faulkner told parliament. “The best advice I can give the Senate at the moment is Defence are now planning to close RAAF Glenbrook by mid-2015.”
