Jetstar will base additional aircraft in Melbourne and the Gold Coast as it ramps up domestic service over the coming months.
By April, the budget carrier says it plans to offer 12,000 extra seats a week to and from Melbourne. That includes four additional weekly return services to Cairns (for a total of 25); three extra services to Brisbane and Adelaide (for a total of 24 each); and an additional daily return to Sydney (for a total of eight). Those services all commence from April 1.
Jetstar also plans to launch three extra weekly services between Adelaide-Perth and an extra daily service between Sydney-Gold Coast from April 1. Over the past month, the carrier has already launched extra flight between Melbourne and Perth, Gold Coast and Launceston.
The airline will base its 13th A320 aircraft in Melbourne and its fourth A320 in Gold Coast to facilitate the increased services, which it says will add a total of 15800 seats to its domestic network.
“We’re pleased to offer Australians more seats to go on holiday or visit friends and family,” Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said. “This extra capacity is great news for travellers wanting to visit Victoria from other states, as well as the Australian tourism industry generally.”
