Virgin Australia has launched extra weekday flights between Mackay and Brisbane and has opened its first ever lounge at Mackay Airport.
The extra services, which will be available from March 5, will bring to 78 Virgin’s weekly flights between Mackay and the Queensland capital, giving it two more flights per day on the route than any other carrier.
“Mackay is an extremely important market for Virgin Australia,” Martin Daley, Virgin’s chief of product and guest services, said in a statement. “Not only is it the gateway to some of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations such as the Great Barrier Reef, it is also has a strong mining industry, which attracts corporate and government travellers.”
The 260 square metre lounge includes business facilities, a private meeting room and high definition televisions and can accommodate 70 guests. Virgin is set to launch business class services on the Brisbane-Mackay route from January 18.
