Air New Zealand will launch twice weekly flights to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast this winter as part of its trans Tasman alliance with Virgin Australia.

The A320 flights will operate between Auckland and the Sunshine Coast on Tuesdays and Sundays between July 1 and September 18 and will offer connections to the respective domestic and international networks of the two carriers.

Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe said the service might be expanded if it proves popular.

“There’s a long tradition of Kiwi travellers heading to Queensland for some winter sun so while we’re trialling this new service on a seasonal basis…it may be possible to extent the season if there’s enough demand,” he said.
