Start-up budget carrier Scoot Airlines has announced plans for five times weekly flights from its Singapore hub to the Gold Coast, the second Australian destination for the new Singapore Airlines subsidiary.

Flights are due to commence in June. Scoot previously announced plans to fly to Sydney.

Australian tourism officials hailed the announcement. Singapore is already Australia’s sixth largest inbound tourism market and a major hub for international travel.

“The Gold Coast has today achieved a new standing as an international destination with regular direct flights from the Asian hub of Singapore unlocking a massive network of access and promotional opportunities,” Gold Coast Tourism CEO Martin Winter said. “Access is vital in the international tourism market, and in our region there is no better access than to be directly connected to the global network which Singapore delivers.”
