Boeing has awarded a 10 year, $1 billion contract to an Abu Dhabi company for the production of carbon-composite parts for its 777 and 787 airliners.
The deal with Mubadala Aerospace, the aviation wing of the Abu Dhabi government’s development and investment fund, covers the production of ribs for the tail section of the 777 and vertical tail fins for the 787.
Boeing said the deal was the first direct outsourcing contract for composite production in the Arab world and comes as Abu Dhabi continues to move aggressively to position itself as a global aerospace hub.
“The UAE is one of Boeing’s most important commercial and defense customers, and its leaders have transformed its economy with aerospace investment and development,” Boeing CEO Jim Albaugh said.
