Auckland Airport boss Simon Moutter has resigned to take over as CEO of NZ Telecom.
Simon Robertson, the airport’s current chief financial officer, will step in as acting CEO when Moutter leaves in August. The airport said it would conduct a thorough search for a permanent replacement.
Robertson joined the airport in 2005 and held a range of executive positions prior to becoming CFO in 2009.
Moutter took the job as the airport’s CEO in 2008 after working as chief operating officer at Telecom. Auckland Airport chair Joan Withers praised Moutter’s tenure at the airport, saying he had guided the company through continued growth despite challenging times.
“Under his leadership, Auckland Airport has transformed its business model and focus to one of providing a world class service to all who use the aiport,” she said. “For shareholders this has delivered solid returns during a period of unprecedented global market upheaval.”
Withers said the company was on track to exceed projected profits of NZ$130 million for the current financial year. Industry group SkyTrax recently named Auckland Airport the region’s best for the fourth straight year.
