Engine chosen for Jetstar A320neo

written by australianaviation.com.au | April 20, 2012
Jetstar-parent Qantas has settled on an engine choice for the budget carrier’s A320neos..

The Qantas Group has picked CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power Jetstar’s future fleet of 78 Airbus A320neos.

Jetstar is scheduled to receive the first of updated single aisle jets in 2016. About half the aircraft will replace existing leased aircraft while the other half will support Jetstar growth.

Featuring upgraded engines and wingtip “sharklets,” Airbus says the A320neo will be about 15 per cent more fuel efficient than the current generation A320. The A320neo is available with either the LEAP or Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said the carrier chose the LEAP engines because of their “performance, fuel efficiency and maintenance program.”
