Airbus has won its first order for its new longer-range A330 widebody with a deal for 10 aircraft with US-based financing company CIT.

The deal includes firm orders for five A330s announced previously and a new agreement for five of the longer-range variant. The upgraded A330, announced earlier this week at the Farnborough Airshow, offers between a four and five per cent increase in range and a slightly larger payload over current A330s.

The deal with CIT – one of the few firm orders announced at Farnborough – is valued at $2.3 billion at list prices. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2014.
