Brisbane Airport has introduced a self-service bag drop system that will be phased in over the coming months.
The system, designed by aerospace technology firm SITA, allows passengers to check a bag in less than 25 second. After check-in, passengers attach the bag tag to their luggage and then drop if off at a station, where it is weighed, scanned, measured and dispatched for flight.
The system is being launched on Jetstar domestic services and will be extended to other carrier over the remainder of the year. The airport said the system is a response to growing passenger number, which topped 21 million last financial year.
“Peak times are already busy and will only become busier so, we are committed to using the best technology to improve operations, enhance the passenger experience and to make optimum use of the space we have available,” said Roel Hellemons, Brisbane Airport’s general manager for strategic planning and development.
