Sydney-based carbon composite manufacturer Quickstep has received its first purchase order under a contract with Lockheed Martin to supply composite wing flaps for the C-130J Super Hercules airlifter.

The order, covering preliminary work such as planning, tooling and training activities, is expected to be valued at between $1.4 and $1.6 million, Quickstep said in a statement.

The company said the initial contract together with the recent grant of an export licence paved the way for finalising a long term agreement with Lockheed expected to generate revenues of $75 to $100 million over five years.

Quickstep expects to begin delivery of the wing flaps in the first quarter of 2014. The company also makes parts for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
