Qantas has unveiled the first product upgrade stemming from its new alliance with Emirates – a chauffeur service for first and business class customer traveling on flights more than 12 hours long.

The Chauffeur Drive service is currently offered by Emirates to its premium customers. The two airlines have promised to align their services to the higher standard where they differ as part of the broad alliance unveiled yesterday.

In a statement, Qantas said the chauffeur service would be offered to customers traveling between Australia and Dubai, London, Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Santiago and Johannesburg.

“Passengers will be collected in a luxury vehicle and driven to the airport to meet their flight,” Qantas said. “On arrival at their destination, they will be met by another chauffeur service and driven to their hotel, office or home.”

The service will be available to passenger taking a domestic or New Zealand-based connection prior to an international flight, Qantas said.

“We know this door-to-door service will be very well received and it’s a prime example of the kind of benefits customers can expect from the new partnership,” Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said.

In Dubai, Emirates offers chauffeur service to first class passengers in a specially-commissioned fleet of Mercedes and to business class passengers in high-end Volvos, according to its website.
