Air New Zealand has reduced its new ‘Night Rider’ fare between Auckland and Wellington to NZ$7 each way in the lead up to Christmas.

On offer for flights between December 17 and 24, the fares are applicable to late night services between the cities.

The airline’s CEO Rob Fyfe said: “We reckon there are plenty of Wellingtonians and Aucklanders who would love to jump on a plane and head out of town to do their Christmas shopping. Equally, a getaway to either of these two great cities for as low as $14 return per person for a ‘Seat’ fare will be a Christmas dream come true for many Kiwis.”

The ‘Night Rider’ initiative was launched last week and starts on November 5, and sees every seat on the last flight of the day between Auckland and Wellington priced from $29. Flights will depart from both Auckland and Wellington at 10pm every night Sunday-Friday.

“The domestic market is critical to the success of our business and the Night Rider flights are part of a wider strategy to stimulate more people to fly.  The strategy includes the introduction of our popular standby fares on all domestic services, significant reductions to lead-in fares on both main city and regional routes and a substantial investment in new aircraft for the domestic fleet,” Fyfe said last week.
