Auckland International Airport Limited has released performance figures for August, showing mixed results from its three airport investments.
The total number of passengers at Auckland receded by nearly 1.4 per cent, with a dramatic reduction in international transit passengers following the withdrawal of through-services by Qantas and Aerolineas Argentinas to Los Angeles and Buenos Aires respectively. Domestic throughput remained static.
A similar picture has emerged in Cairns, where international passengers have reduced by 10 per cent as a result of Jetstar schedule adjustments. Domestic traffic remained buoyant, with a 5 per cent increase.
Queenstown fared the best during August, with international passengers up nearly 10 per cent and domestic passengers an impressive 26.3 per cent, a trend AIAL expects to continue following service increases by Jetstar to Sydney and Melbourne.
