Upgraded radar commissioned for BNE

written by australianaviation.com.au | April 5, 2013

Airservices Australia has commissioned a new radar facility at Mount Hardgrave on North Stradbroke Island to improve coverage of aircraft operating around Brisbane Airport.

The new radar provides both primary and secondary surveillance, improving on what had been solely a secondary surveillance facility. The radar is housed within a dome meant to protect it from high winds and other severe weather.

The commissioning of the new radar, which was completed last month following flight inspection testing, will allow work to commence on a modernisation of the existing radar at Brisbane Airport, Airservices said.
