Airbus sees no new orders in January, 21 deliveries

written by Hannah Dowling | February 8, 2021

The European planemaker received no new orders for commercial aircraft in January 2021, marking a slow start to the year for the manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Airbus made 21 aircraft deliveries to 15 different customers over the month.

January deliveries included two twin-aisle aircraft – one A350-900 bound for Turkish Airlines, as well as one A330-800 for Uganda Airlines.

Other deliveries included 10 A320neos, four A321s, one A321neo, one A319neo and three A220s.

Delta Air Lines took delivery of six Airbus aircraft in January, including one A220-100, one A220-300, and all four A321s.

The planemaker saw no order cancellations in January, and currently holds a backlog of 7,163 aircraft.

In January 2020, the planemaker made 31 deliveries to 25 different customers.

Airbus delivered a total of 556 aircraft throughout the pandemic-ridden year of 2020, falling a fair way short of the 863 aircraft it delivered in 2019.

However, the planemaker said its final result for the year was largely in line with its revised internal forecast which was adapted in April 2020.

Due to subdued demand for new aircraft, last month Airbus announced it had decelerated an intended ramp-up of its A320 production.

Airbus announced that its production output for its popular single-aisle A320 jet family will increase from 40 per month to 43 per month in the third quarter of 2021, and up to 45 in the last quarter of the year, down from its previously announced target of 47 per month by the end of 2021.

Airbus said the decision was made “in response to the market environment”.

Meanwhile, production intentions on the planemaker’s wide-bodied aircraft remain unchanged, though plans for a potential increase in A350 productions have been scrapped for now.
