The gateway to Iceland’s scenic north, Akureyri International Airport, has marked a significant milestone in its expansion efforts. A new terminal dedicated to international flights was inaugurated in late February, offering the first arriving passengers from Voigt Travel and Transavia an enhanced travel experience. This improvement is part of an ongoing project to expand and upgrade the airport’s facilities.
The addition of the new terminal is expected to transform the journey for international travellers significantly. Features such as increased space, an upgraded baggage claim area, an expanded duty-free shopping experience, and additional amenities are set to elevate the customer experience.
Adjacent to this new terminal is a newly constructed apron, which has notably increased the airport’s capacity for handling aircraft. This development not only accommodates more flights but also supports the growth of tourism and business travel to the region.
Continuing the airport’s enhancement, the coming months will see renovations to the older sections of the terminal. These upgrades aim to ensure a seamless and comfortable experience for all passengers, reflecting the airport’s commitment to maintaining a modern and efficient gateway to Iceland’s northern attractions.
