Global Airlines has recently made a significant addition to its advisory board, announcing the appointment of John Roberts, a venerable figure in aviation with over 40 years of experience, including a significant tenure as Airbus UK’s Chief Engineer for the A380. This move comes on the heels of the first flight of 9H-GLOBL from the Mojave Air and Space Port, signaling a step forward in Global’s commitment to developing its fleet, particularly the Airbus A380. During Roberts’ remarkable career, he has been instrumental in the operational introduction of the A380 and has served as a crucial liaison for airlines during the aircraft’s early in-service life. His former roles spanned across Dowty Fuel Systems and Messier-Dowty, with the bulk of his career dedicated to Airbus.
With his deep understanding of the A380’s operational and maintenance complexities, Roberts remarked on his new advisory role: “The A380 is the most distinctive aircraft in the sky, and I’m proud to have played a small part in its success since it entered into commercial operation in 2005.” He further noted the A380’s enduring relevance and its potential for two more decades of full-time usage.
Kevin Billings OBE, Chair of the Advisory Board, expressed enthusiasm for Roberts’ addition, emphasizing that Roberts’ unparalleled experience and deep familiarity with the A380 will be pivotal for Global Airlines as it embarks on a period of rapid development. Billings highlighted the monumental achievement of getting an A380 back in the sky and acknowledged the complexities involved in such an endeavor.
Roberts joins a distinguished group of advisory board members, including Kevin Billings OBE (Chair), Captain Ian Black, Margaret Dabbs OBE, Pierre Madrange, Claire Harbard, and Bill McPherson. Beyond his extensive professional contributions, Roberts is also a Brunel University alumnus, where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering, a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and a chartered engineer.
His appointment underscores Global Airlines’ strategic efforts to amass a wealth of aviation expertise on its advisory board, particularly focusing on operations, maintenance, and the future development of the A380 within its fleet.
