American Airlines, Make-A-Wish®, and Disney celebrate World Wish Month with Special Wish Flight

In an inspiring collaboration, American Airlines, Make-A-Wish®, and Disney have joined forces to create a memorable journey for 28 children battling critical illnesses, marking the celebration of World Wish Month leading up to World Wish Day® on April 29. This year, a specially chartered Wish Flight will transport these children and their families from Dallas-Fort Worth to Orlando, Florida, to fulfill their dreams of visiting Walt Disney World Resort®.

The initiative kicked off with a heartwarming wish reveal celebration at American Airlines’ headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Local wish families were greeted with joy, refreshments, and photo opportunities, setting the stage for the exciting journey ahead. The Wish Flight promises an unforgettable experience starting with a celebratory breakfast and a special send-off by the WishMakers, the dedicated individuals making these dreams a reality.

Passengers on the Wish Flight will enjoy a unique in-flight experience filled with games, a special snack menu, live entertainment, and surprise moments designed to start the magical journey from the moment they board the plane. Upon arrival at Orlando International Airport, the families will be welcomed with cheers, moving on to a special reception at Give Kids The World Village. This whimsical resort will serve as their home for six days and five nights, where all their wishes to explore Walt Disney World Resort® will come true.

Leslie Motter, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America, expressed gratitude towards American Airlines and Disney for their long-standing partnership and commitment to bringing joy and hope to children and their families. “This unique experience aboard the Wish Flight is set to create lasting memories, offering much more than just a journey,” Motter said.

The wish fulfillment effort highlights the critical need for airline miles donations, with nearly 3 billion miles required annually to support travel wishes. American Airlines, a devoted partner of Make-A-Wish for over 35 years, contributes significantly by donating chartered aircraft and millions of AAdvantage® miles each year. Throughout April, American will direct all miles donated to its Miles for Global Health and Well-Being campaign to Make-A-Wish, up to 50 million miles, further supporting these life-changing experiences.

Caroline Clayton, Vice President of Communications and Marketing at American Airlines, emphasized the airline’s role in connecting people and creating joy through travel. “We are honored to play a part in these children’s journeys, providing them with support and unforgettable experiences,” Clayton remarked.

As World Wish Month unfolds, Make-A-Wish chapters worldwide encourage communities to join in and become WishMakers, supporting the goal to grant every eligible child’s wish. The Wish Flight serves as a shining example of what can be achieved when compassion and community come together.
