British Airways unveils newly renovated premium lounge at Lagos airport

British Airways has opened its completely refurbished luxurious lounge at Lagos airport, following a six-month renovation project. The 360-square-metre space has been cleverly designed to provide customers with more room to relax, dine, or work in a premium setting, while also proudly showcasing local art from Akoje Gallery.

The contemporary lounge features a grand entrance with floor-to-ceiling glass, transporting customers into a welcoming space. The airline has created zones throughout the lounge to cater to different customers’ needs, including a self-serve dining area with a wide selection of freshly made Nigerian classics and British-inspired dishes, which will change regularly. Customers can also enjoy drinks, including cocktails, wine, and soft drinks, at a newly built bar, with champagne and canapes offered to those travelling in First.

To commemorate British Airways’ strong association with Nigeria, the lounge will display art from local artists, curated by Akoje Gallery, founded by Maro Itoje and Khalil Akar. The first showcase of works, themed ‘New Beginnings’, features artists Olawunmi Banjo, Qozeem Abdul Rahman, and Steve Ekpenisi.

The newly imagined space includes a quiet room with day beds, a main area with comfy sofas and clusters of tables and chairs, and printing facilities for customers needing to work. Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer, expressed delight in opening the stunning lounge in Lagos, stating that it is part of the airline’s transformation strategy across its lounges around the world.

The lounge is open to customers travelling in Club World (business) and First, as well as Silver and Gold Executive Club Members. Khalil Akar, Co-founder of Akoje Gallery, said they are honoured to partner with British Airways and give local Nigerian artists the chance to showcase their talents in the brand-new Lagos lounge.

British Airways operates a daily flight between London Heathrow and Lagos, with the preferred aircraft being the 787-10, the airline’s newest aircraft. Customers have four cabins to choose from: First, Club World (business), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and World Traveller (economy).
