AirAsia Group adopts SITA flight tracking system across seven airlines

AirAsia Aviation Group and AirAsia X have implemented SITA Mission Watch across their operations, enhancing flight tracking and safety measures for seven airlines within the group.

The industry-leading flight monitoring solution has been deployed to manage over 200 aircraft serving more than 130 destinations in 22 countries.

Datuk Captain Chester Voo, Deputy Group CEO (Airline Operations) of AirAsia Aviation Group, said the technology would raise standards for safety and efficiency.

“SITA has brought all seven airlines across the AirAsia Group and AirAsia X to the cutting edge of flight tracking technology, allowing us to go above and beyond industry safety standards,” Captain Voo said.

SITA Mission Watch provides real-time weather visualization and shared situational awareness between operations control centres and cockpits through advanced alerting and messaging systems.

The system maps each aircraft’s latitude, longitude, altitude, and time to provide 4D/15 visibility, meeting and exceeding ICAO’s Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS) mandate on tracking requirements.

Yann Cabaret, CEO of SITA For Aircraft, said the technology would help dispatchers work smarter and safer.

“We’re helping dispatchers work smarter and safer, while staying one step ahead of changing conditions,” Mr Cabaret said.

The solution has been implemented across AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia X, AirAsia Philippines, AirAsia Indonesia, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, and AirAsia Cambodia.

It allows flight dispatchers to anticipate potential issues before they occur and take proactive steps to resolve them, thanks to integrated messaging services with the cockpit.

This deployment strengthens the partnership between SITA and AirAsia, which began in 2020 with the implementation of SITA OptiFlight® for CO2 reductions and fuel savings.

The adoption of SITA Mission Watch represents a significant step in AirAsia’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational safety and efficiency across its multiple airlines.
