written by Newsdesk | July 5, 2024

Airbus has delivered its first H160 helicopter in the United States to PHI Aviation, marking the beginning of H160 operations in the country.

The aircraft is the first of four H160 helicopters that PHI will operate for offshore transportation in the Gulf of Mexico.

Before commencing commercial operations, the helicopter will undergo a route-proving programme to demonstrate its capabilities in the demanding offshore environment.

Scott McCarty, CEO of PHI Group, said: “This is an exciting milestone for our teams and partners. The H160 represents a new era for PHI, enhancing our commitment to safety, quality and efficiency for our operations in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, added: “With its state-of-the-art technology, the H160 has set a new standard in the helicopter industry and we are pleased U.S. customers will now benefit from the aircraft’s superior performance.”

The H160’s features include lower fuel consumption, ability to use up to 50% blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a comfortable cabin, and excellent cockpit visibility.

Airbus believes these attributes make the H160 well-suited for offshore operations.

The route-proving programme aims to ensure a smooth entry into service by familiarising the operator and final customer with the aircraft’s advanced technology and safety features.

The H160 has already entered service in several countries including Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia, France, and other European nations.

Recently, the first Canadian delivery of the H160 was made to Chartright Air Group, demonstrating the helicopter’s growing popularity in North America.

This delivery represents a significant step in the expansion of H160 operations globally and particularly in the U.S. offshore energy sector.
