Embraer sells six Super Tucano aircraft to Paraguay

Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has announced the sale of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Paraguayan Air Force (FAP) at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The deal, revealed on July 23, 2024, includes mission equipment and an integrated logistics services agreement, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2025.

Fabio Caparica, Commercial Vice President for Latin America at Embraer Defense & Security, expressed the company’s satisfaction with the sale.

“We are honoured by the Paraguayan Air Force decision and very pleased to be able to announce more A-29 Super Tucano sales,” Mr Caparica said.

The A-29 Super Tucano is a multi-mission aircraft capable of performing armed reconnaissance, close air support, light attack, and advanced training missions.

Air General Júlio Rubén Fullaondo Céspedes, Commander of the Paraguayan Air Force, said the purchase was part of a broader modernisation effort.

“To face emerging threats, we are in the process of modernising our aerial and detection capabilities,” General Fullaondo Céspedes said.

He added that the new aircraft would help the FAP contribute to regional and international peace and security.

Embraer highlighted the A-29 Super Tucano’s global success, noting that it has received over 260 orders and logged more than 550,000 flight hours, including 60,000 in combat.

The company touted the aircraft’s versatility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to operate from unpaved runways in austere environments.

The A-29 Super Tucano is equipped with advanced avionics and weapons systems, allowing it to perform a wide range of missions including close air support, air patrol, special operations, and border surveillance.

This sale to Paraguay represents another success for Embraer in the Latin American market and further cements the A-29 Super Tucano’s position as a leading light attack and training aircraft.

The deal also underscores the ongoing modernisation efforts of air forces in the region, as they seek to enhance their capabilities to address various security challenges.
