Vietjet, the Vietnamese low-cost carrier, has marked a significant milestone by welcoming its 200 millionth passenger at the Vietnam – India Business Forum in New Delhi.
The airline also announced a new route connecting Ahmedabad, India, with Da Nang, Vietnam, set to begin operations in October 2024.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Vietjet on reaching the passenger milestone and welcomed the new flight route during his state visit to India.
The 200 millionth passenger, Indian businessman Sandeep Mehta, received a gift of one year of free international flights operated by Vietjet.
To celebrate the achievement, Vietjet is offering discounted fares on international routes connecting Australia and Vietnam, as well as Vietnamese domestic routes.
The week-long promotion runs from 2-8 August 2024, with tickets priced as low as AUD199 for travel between 4 September 2024 and 22 May 2025.
Vietjet has been operating direct flights between Vietnam and India since 2019, currently serving seven routes with 56 weekly flights.
In Australia, the airline operates seven routes with 58 weekly flights, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, as well as Hanoi with Melbourne and Sydney.
The new Ahmedabad-Da Nang route is expected to boost tourism and business travel between India and Vietnam, with Ahmedabad being the largest city in Gujarat state and Da Nang a popular destination in central Vietnam.
Vietjet’s expansion reflects its growing presence in the Asia-Pacific region and its commitment to providing affordable travel options for passengers.
