written by Newsdesk | September 24, 2024

Air New Zealand is preparing to welcome over 500,000 domestic passengers during the upcoming school holidays, as Kiwis take to the skies to connect with family and friends across Aotearoa.

Air New Zealand General Manager Domestic Scott Carr said the airline has added 25,000 extra seats across 260 domestic flights to meet increased demand between 27 September and 13 October.

“This Friday is our busiest day with over 34,000 customers travelling around the country,” Mr Carr said.

The airline is also expecting to carry 5,500 unaccompanied minors and more than 300 pets during the holiday period.

Mr Carr advised passengers to allow extra time for check-in, especially when travelling with children or pets.

Wellington is set to be a popular destination, with events like the All Blacks vs Wallabies match at Sky Stadium and the World of WearableArt Show at TSB Arena drawing travellers.

International travel is also picking up, with increased capacity to Bali and Niue. Sydney remains the top overseas destination, with 25,000 customers expected to travel to or from the city.
