American Airlines will launch five new routes to Europe for the summer 2025 season, including resuming flights to Edinburgh after a six-year hiatus.
The airline announced it will add new services from various US hubs to Athens, Madrid, Milan and Rome, in addition to restarting Edinburgh flights.
Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said the new routes would offer customers more options for European travel.
“Resuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from American’s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer,” Znotins said.
From Philadelphia, travellers will be able to connect to 17 trans-Atlantic destinations, including the new Edinburgh service.
American will expand its Italian network with new flights from Miami to Rome and Philadelphia to Milan.
The airline will also launch its first-ever service between its Chicago hub and Madrid.
A new route from Charlotte to Athens will give American four daily flights to Greece in 2025.
Tickets for the new services will go on sale from 9 September.
American said it will operate over 70 daily departures to more than 20 trans-Atlantic destinations in summer 2025.
The airline is also bringing back flights to Copenhagen, Naples and Nice for the 2025 summer season after launching them in 2024.
Some existing European routes will be extended, including Miami to Paris service continuing into summer.
For Asia, American will use larger aircraft on four routes to Japan from Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles next summer.
The expanded capacity aims to provide more access to Tokyo and connections to over 30 destinations across Japan and East Asia through American’s partner airlines.
