Cathay has expanded its Corporate Sustainable Aviation Fuel Programme with new partners tripling carbon emission reductions compared to last year.
The airline has introduced a tiered structure for the program, which now includes 15 corporate partners across Diamond, Gold and Silver levels.
Program partners have committed to using 2,650 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel in 2024, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 8,060 tonnes.
Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said the program was crucial for industry decarbonisation.
“With growing support from our corporate travel and cargo customers, Cathay continues to increase SAF usage across our network worldwide,” Lam said.
DB Schenker and Kuehne+Nagel have joined as Diamond partners, while EQT becomes a Gold partner and Julius Baer and Lenton Group join as Silver partners.
The program has retained existing partners including Airport Authority Hong Kong, AIA, Standard Chartered Bank and Swire Pacific.
Sustainable aviation fuel can reduce carbon emissions by over 80 per cent compared to conventional jet fuel, depending on technology and feedstock used.
Cathay Pacific aims to use 10 per cent sustainable aviation fuel across its operations by 2030.
The airline is also pursuing fleet modernisation and operational efficiency improvements to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The carrier has completed sustainable aviation fuel uplifts at Hong Kong International Airport and overseas locations.
