Slovakia has signalled its intention to purchase Embraer C-390 Millennium aircraft for its military transport requirements.
The Slovak Ministry of Defense signed a Letter of Intent with Brazil’s Ministry of Defense to enhance industrial cooperation between the two nations.
Formal steps toward acquiring three C-390 aircraft will begin in January 2025.
“The C-390 is currently the best aircraft in its category due to its cost efficiency, versatility and reliability,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
The aircraft’s growing presence among European NATO members was cited as a key factor in Slovakia’s decision.
Several neighbouring countries have already acquired the C-390, including Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Sweden recently selected the aircraft, while Brazil and South Korea are also operating the transport plane.
The agreement aims to create synergies in training, logistics and fleet management with other regional operators.
