Embraer has secured a contract to supply four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to an undisclosed African customer.
The Brazilian aerospace manufacturer signed the agreement on December 31, 2024, making this the sixth African nation to operate the light attack and advanced trainer aircraft.
The aircraft will be used for border surveillance, intelligence gathering, close air support, counterinsurgency operations and advanced flight training.
“The A-29 Super Tucano is an extremely versatile aircraft that is able to carry out the most challenging missions under the most demanding conditions. It is the world leader in its category as it combines a combat-proven track record with advanced technology,” Embraer Defense & Security President and CEO Bosco da Costa Junior said.
The Super Tucano has accumulated more than 570,000 flight hours globally, including 60,000 hours in combat operations.
The aircraft can operate from unpaved runways and has garnered over 290 orders worldwide.
In 2024, Embraer sold additional Super Tucano aircraft to the Portuguese Air Force, the Uruguayan Air Force and the Paraguayan Air Force.
The aircraft features advanced targeting systems, weapons capabilities and communications equipment, designed for missions including close air support, air patrol and border surveillance.
