Frontier Airlines expands free seat upgrades in loyalty program revamp

written by Newsdesk | January 17, 2025

Frontier Airlines has announced expanded access to complimentary seat upgrades for its Elite Status members as part of its service overhaul for 2025.

The ultra-low-cost carrier revealed Platinum members would be eligible for upgrades 12 hours before departure, while Gold members could access upgrades four hours prior to their flight.

The changes formed part of the airline’s broader “New Frontier” initiative, which aimed to combine affordability with enhanced customer benefits.

Chief Commercial Officer Bobby Schroeter said the airline had ambitious plans for the year ahead.

“We have so much in store for 2025 as we write the next chapter of The New Frontier and show that luxury and affordability can fly hand in hand,” Mr Schroeter said.

The airline introduced a limited-time fast-track offer allowing customers to achieve Platinum Elite Status by earning 20,000 Elite Status Points by April 30, 2025 – less than half the usual requirement of 50,000 points.

Frontier planned to launch First Class seating across its fleet in late 2025, along with unlimited free companion travel for Platinum and Diamond Elite members from mid-year.

The revamped program would also allow customers to redeem FRONTIER Miles for baggage and seating upgrades starting mid-2025.

The airline eliminated change and cancellation fees for Economy, Premium, and Business customers as part of its service improvements.

Upgrades could be selected through the Frontier Airlines mobile app or website, with both Premium Seating and UpFront Plus options featuring guaranteed open middle seats.
