Munich Airport emerged as Germany’s fastest-growing airport in 2024, with passenger numbers climbing by 4.5 million to reach 41.6 million travellers.
Aircraft movements at the Bavarian hub increased 8 per cent to more than 327,000 takeoffs and landings, while maintaining a seat load factor above 82 per cent.
Long-haul routes showed the strongest expansion, rising 17 per cent, as European and Mediterranean flights grew by 12 per cent.
Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers said the results highlighted the facility’s regional importance.
“I am delighted that we can report such strong growth in both passenger numbers and destinations in Munich. This confirms that there is high demand for air travel, and underlines the Munich hub’s importance to the economy and population of Bavaria and far beyond,” he said.
The airport expanded its network to 224 destinations across 66 countries, with 96 airlines operating regular services, including five cargo carriers.
Freight volumes rose 11 per cent to 308,000 metric tonnes.
Total commercial passenger traffic increased 12.2 per cent from 37 million in 2023 to 41.6 million in 2024.
Air cargo and mail handling grew 9.4 per cent to reach 311,098 metric tonnes.
The results demonstrated sustained recovery in both passenger and cargo operations at the German aviation hub.
