Munich Airport strengthens role as key hub for Asian travel

written by Newsdesk | January 30, 2025

Munich Airport recorded a 38.7 per cent increase in long-haul passenger traffic to Central, South, and East Asia in 2024, with 2.6 million travellers flying from or via the airport to destinations in the region.

Bangkok was the most popular destination, followed by Singapore and Beijing. Over the northern summer, the airport had 105 weekly departures to Asia.

The rise in traffic was driven by both established and new routes, including EVA Air’s four weekly non-stop flights to Taipei and Vietnam Airlines’ services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which commenced in October. From June 2025, ten Asian airlines, including Cathay Pacific, will connect Munich to the region alongside Lufthansa.

Munich Airport also reported growth in its cargo sector, with one-third of intercontinental freight—105,000 tonnes in 2024—bound for East Asia.

To mark the Lunar New Year, passengers can access tiered price reductions at select airport retailers until the end of March.
