The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) has welcomed FL Technics as a new member, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion within the region.
FL Technics, a global provider of aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, is developing a state-of-the-art MRO facility at Punta Cana International Airport, the second busiest airport in the Caribbean. The facility aims to enhance maintenance capabilities for narrow-body aircraft in the region.
ALTA CEO José Ricardo Botelho highlighted the importance of FL Technics’ presence in Latin America.
“FL Technics is a key player in the aviation sector and recognizes that Latin America is a dynamic and growing market. That is why, since last year, it has been building a state-of-the-art MRO facility at Punta Cana International Airport,” he said.
The first phase of the project, expected to be completed in two years, includes a 52,000-square-metre facility with a 20,000-square-metre hangar, five maintenance bays, and various support workshops. Future expansion will bring the total maintenance bay capacity to 20, positioning Punta Cana as a strategic hub for regional aviation.
FL Technics CEO Zilvinas Lapinskas emphasised the company’s commitment to the region.
“As we expand our global MRO network, the Americas and Caribbean region are a vital part of our long-term strategy. Our new facility in Punta Cana will enhance the availability of high-quality maintenance services for airlines across the region as well as create significant job opportunities for local talent. By combining our global expertise with regional partnerships, we aim to strengthen the aviation maintenance sector in the Americas, supporting both economic growth and industry development,” he said.
FL Technics plans to leverage its FAA and EASA Part-145 certifications to provide world-class base and line maintenance services, improving aircraft availability and operational efficiency. Airlines operating at Punta Cana International Airport and the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone will have access to a full suite of services, including heavy maintenance, transit checks, component repairs, and cabin modifications.
Botelho noted the broader economic impact of the project.
“This new facility in Punta Cana is an example of how aviation serves as a driver of economic and social development. Initiatives like this will generate jobs, create opportunities for multiple businesses and industries, and enhance connectivity, benefiting both airlines and the communities that rely on them,” he said.
With this expansion, FL Technics strengthens its presence in the Americas and broadens its global MRO network, which includes facilities in Lithuania, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia. The addition of the Dominican Republic facility increases the company’s total hangar space to 86,000 square metres, reinforcing its position as one of the largest independent MRO networks worldwide.
