Thai Airways to upgrade A350 cabins under new Airbus agreement

written by Newsdesk | April 14, 2025

Airbus and Thai Airways International (THAI) have signed a Letter of Intent for the retrofit of the airline’s A350 fleet.

The agreement will see THAI’s A350-900 aircraft receive comprehensive cabin upgrades to enhance passenger comfort on long-haul routes.

The modernisation program will be managed by Airbus and is scheduled to begin in 2028.

The cabin upgrades will include new ‘Royal Silk’ Business Class seats, the introduction of Premium Economy Class seating, and refreshed Economy Class cabins.

An improved in-flight entertainment system will also be installed across all seating classes.

Balinda Zhang, Airbus Head of Commercial Services APAC, said the manufacturer was supporting THAI’s investment in its fleet modernisation.

“Airbus is pleased to support THAI in this significant investment in their fleet, ensuring that their A350 aircraft continue to offer passengers an exceptional flying experience,” Zhang said.

The retrofitted aircraft will re-enter service in phases to minimise disruption to THAI’s flight operations.

THAI operates the A350 on its long-haul network, with the aircraft type serving as a key component of its international fleet.

The agreement builds on the longstanding partnership between the European aircraft manufacturer and the Thai national carrier.

Neither party has disclosed the financial terms of the retrofit program.

The A350 is one of Airbus’ newest widebody aircraft models, featuring composite materials and advanced aerodynamics designed for improved fuel efficiency.
