The US Federal Aviation Administration yesterday issued Boeing with an amended type certificate for the 787-8 Dreamliner equipped with General Electric GEnx engines.
Boeing completed flight testing of the combination last month. The 787 received FAA certification with Rolls-Royce engines in August 2011 and entered commercial service in October.
“This milestone completes the certification of the 787-8 airplane, and allows airlines to now operate the GE engine-powered 787 with both the baseline Block 4 engine and the PIP1 engine upgrade,” said Mike Sinnett, vice president and chief project engineer for the 787 program.
The Qantas Group has selected the GEnx for the 50 787s it has on order, with first deliveries, to Jetstar, planned for mid-2013.
