Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia X has started its daily service from Kuala Lampur to Sydney, with the carrier’s first A330 flight touching down at Kingsford-Smith this morning.

The launch of Sydney services represents an important move for AirAsia X and comes days after the carrier ended flights to London and Paris. The long haul LCC has also slashed flights to India as it turns its focus to more profitable routes in Asia and Australasia.

AirAsia X already flies to Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast and has expressed interest in expanding services to Adelaide.

Fares from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur start at $249 one-way.
