An RAAF KC-30A has set a new ADF record by carrying 220 passengers and 14 crew, the largest number of people ever to take off on a single RAAF flight.
The aircraft, belonging to 33SSQN, carried passengers from the Australian Defence Force Academy on a two hour flight from the Defence Establishment Fairbairn, Canberra last month as part of the KC-30A’s introduction to service.
The KC-30A, as the RAAF’s Airbus Military A330 Multi Role Tanker Transports are known, is capable of carrying 270 passengers. Australia has ordered five of the aircraft – four of which have been delivered – with Airbus recently making an unsolicited pitch for a sixth.
