The Army’s fleet of Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters has been cleared to resume training flights after a near six-week grounding over cockpit fumes.
The 22-helicopter fleet was grounded on June 26 after one of the aircraft was forced to make a precautionary landing at the Shoalwater Bay training area due to fumes. It was the second time this year the fleet had been grounded over cockpit fumes.
Defence said an investigation had determined that the fumes were coming from a faulty capacitor in the power supply module of a cockpit multifunction display. It said the faulty modules will be returned to the manufacturer for modification.
The Tiger fleet is scheduled to reach full operational capability by the end of the year.
