American Airlines announced on Friday it's planning on cutting year-on-year capacity by 70-80 per cent for domestic, and 80-90 per cent for international flights in May to address “record low customer demand”.
United Airlines, which had already announced drastic cuts to its domestic and international schedule, today announced even deeper cuts.
Thai Airways is planning to suspend most of its flights by 1 April. The airline said it had been reluctant to cut its capacity but, with more nearby countries closing their borders, it had been left with no choice.
Thursday travel bans: Thailand closes borders
Thailand has become the latest in a long list of countries closing its borders for international travel.
The UAE has enacted its travel ban 24 hours early with no flights allowed to leave the country effective immediately. Australia has also upped it measures banning all international travel for its citizens.
Emirates and Etihad have now ground all of its aircraft after the UAE brought forward its flight ban by 24 hours.
