Memorial tower for Nancy-Bird Walton opened

written by WOFA | November 18, 2009

A 1930s style aircraft control tower was opened on November 7 at Luskintyre Airfield in honour of the late pioneering aviatrix Nancy-Bird Walton.

The 16m high tower features three viewing levels, including a 15sq m viewing area at the base with a garden featuring Nancy-Bird Camelias. Erected beside the memorial tower is a 16m flagpole, featuring a large Australian flag.

The memorial tower was a project led by several aviation enthusiasts keen to build a fitting memorial to Walton at Luskintyre. After her recent passing, Walton’s ashes were scattered from Tiger Moths over the Luskintyre Aviation Flying Museum Airfield.
