QAL launches training partnership

written by WOFA | November 19, 2009

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) launched an industry partnership aimed at addressing workforce development issues in the aviation industry on November 19.

Involving QAL, Wagga Wagga Airport, Northern Territory Airports and NSW TAFE – Riverina Institute, the consortium will develop an e-learning multiple year program aimed at enhancing skills within the aviation sector in a flexible environment. Seed funding of $75,000 for the first year of the project has been provided by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework, with up to $200,000 expected to be funded over three years.

“The program has been developed as a practical way to overcome the common occurrence of issues such as time, distance and the operational nature of the aviation industry,” said QAL managing director Dennis Chant.

“Regional and remote operators who historically haven’t had access to the resources required for skill enhancement will be the key beneficiaries.”

The consortium will showcase this project at the upcoming 2009 Industry E-learning Showcase and Exhibition, a national event held on November 24 in Melbourne.
