Jetstar has confirmed that it will now launch four times weekly direct services from Cairns to Osaka on April 1 after earlier plans to start the service in December were set back by a disagreement with Cairns Airport over charges.
“The securing of a long term partnership agreement with Cairns International Airport was a clear catalyst for these new additional international flights for Cairns and is important for it providing a platform for further sustainable growth opportunities,” said Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan.
From April 1, the airline will operate the services with an A330-200 to Osaka, while on the same day it will add a second daily service on the Melbourne-Cairns service operated by an A320. Jetstar has also confirmed that its Gold Coast-Cairns service, which connects with its Gold Coast-Osaka services, will remain, operating on alternate days to the direct service.
