Boeing has been awarded a five year, $800m in-service support contract to support the RAAF’s Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) program.

Under the contract, Boeing Defense Space & Security will provide acquisition, program management, integration and engineering services, while Boeing Defence Australia will support the program with engineering, maintenance and supply chain management for the RAAF’s fleet of six Wedgetails. Northrop Grumman will provide support for the Wedgetail’s MESA radar.

Minister for Defence Personnel, Material and Science Greg Combet said at the signing ceremony for the contract on January 19 that the contract will create up to 100 jobs in the Newcastle region, as well as retaining more than 100 jobs in Amberley. “The contract links contractor profits directly to contractor performance, thereby promoting greater efficiency and delivering real cost savings,” he added.

Boeing delivered the first two Wedgetails to the RAAF on November 26.
