Gold Coast opens new terminal

written by WOFA | January 28, 2010

Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and Queensland Deputy Premier Paul Lucas opened the $100 million terminal redevelopment at Gold Coast Airport on January 25.

At 30,000 sqm, the new terminal is almost double the size of the previous one and was completed two months ahead of schedule. The terminal has been specifically designed to meet the needs of low cost airlines, with Jetstar, Virgin Blue, Tiger Airways and AirAsia making up the majority of movements to and from the Gold Coast.

Minister Albanese said that he hoped that the new terminal would increase tourism in the region. “Tourism numbers are good for jobs and good for economic activity, particularly in regional Australia,” he said. “More and more this airport has the potential to be a gateway to take pressure off the capital city airports and that’s why the Rudd Government’s very pleased to see this infrastructure being developed here.”
