In a sign of improving conditions for the mining and regional airline industries, Perth based Skywest has announced it will resume  flights from Kalgoorlie to Melbourne on February 5 after only withdrawing from the route late last year.

“The unfortunate decision to suspend the service late last year was due to deteriorating economic conditions, including escalating fuel costs among other factors,” said Skywest CEO Mark Shelton in a statement.

The new weekly flight will depart Kalgoorlie for Melbourne on Fridays at 1030, while the return leg will depart Melbourne on Sundays at 1600.
