Malaysia to retain MiG-29s

written by WOFA | February 26, 2010

MiG-29 RMAFMalaysia will retain 10 of its MiG-29 fighters for a few years and delay buying a replacement, according to defence minister Ahmad Hamidi.

Despite reports last year that the fleet would be retired by the end of 2010 and sold on to a third party country, the decision to retain the capability will see six aircraft retired and 10 kept in service and maintained by Aerospace Technology System, formerly Malaysian Russian Aviation Services.

Malaysia also operates eight F/A-18D Hornets and a similar number of Su-30MKM Flankers.
