Boeing has confirmed it will offer a development of its 767, dubbed ‘NewGen Tanker’, to meet the the US Air Force’s recently released KC-X requirement.
The NewGen Tanker is based on the 767-200 airframe but would feature a fly-by-wire controlled refuelling boom, under wing and centreline hose and drogue refuelling points, a cargo door for freight on the main deck, winglets, and a new flightdeck featuring four 787 style large screen displays. Boeing has provided few other specific details about the NewGen thus far.
Boeing says it will deliver its KC-X proposal by May 10. Meanwhile the rival teaming of Northrop Grumman/EADS has yet to confirm whether it will offer its Airbus A330 based KC-45 (an evolution of the RAAF’s KC-30) for the KC-X program.
