QantasLink has announced that it will add additional frequencies on its services from Brisbane to Mackay and Rockhampton, while Jetstar will also make changes to its services on the same routes, including withdrawing from Rockhampton.
From April 6, QantasLink will operate an additional eight services per week between Mackay and Brisbane, taking the total number of return services to 24 per week. It will also increase by six per week the number of services between Rockhampton and Brisbane. All the new services will be operated by 74 seat Bombardier Q400s.
At the same time, Jetstar has announced that it will make changes to its schedules on the two routes, adding seven weekly return services on the Mackay-Brisbane route from May 10. The carrier will also withdraw its services on the Rockhampton-Brisbane route from May 9. Passengers booked on the Jetstar service after May 10 will be offered the option to transfer to QantasLink services.
Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan said that the withdrawal was due to the airline and the airport not being able to reach a new pricing agreement. “While it is regrettable we could not reach an agreement with Rockhampton Airport at this stage, the door remains open for the return of Jetstar services if we can achieve a competitive pricing structure with the airport.”
