The International Air Services Commission (IASC) has granted Qantas an allocation of 888 seats per week on the Papua New Guinea route, which will allow QantasLink to operate 12 services per week between Cairns and Port Moresby.

QantasLink is planning to start services on the route utilising 74-seat Bombardier Q400s from July. Air Niugini and Airlines PNG also fly on the route, which is expected to see major growth over the next few years due to a major boost in resource projects in Papua New Guinea.
