Authorities in Macau have reportedly revoked the air operator’s certificate of Viva Macau after the airline suspended services over the weekend due to its poor financial position.
The airline did not operate a number of services from March 26 after it failed to pay for fuel, leaving thousands of passengers stranded in Macau and elsewhere. The airline has also stopped taking bookings, while none of its management has been available for comment.
“Viva Macau had been extremely uncooperative. It did not provide the necessary information when the government tried to assist stranded passengers, such as the name list of passengers, which resulted in the slow progress in helping the affected passengers,” the Macau government reported in a statement.
At the time of its grounding, Viva Macau operated a fleet of three Boeing 767s on flights from Macau to Melbourne, Hanoi, Jakarta, Tokyo and Sapporo. There has been no indication yet if investors may come in to revive the airline, which appears to currently be set for liquidation.
